Empowering Girls Through Education — NRREC Trust's Initiative in Rural Anantapur

Despite significant progress in recent years, gender disparity in education remains a pressing issue in rural Andhra Pradesh. In many communities around Anantapur, girls are still pulled out of school early due to financial pressures, safety concerns, and deep-rooted cultural norms.

The NRREC Trust has made girls' education a cornerstone of its mission. Through targeted outreach programmes, the trust identifies families with girl children who are at risk of dropping out and provides comprehensive support including free tuition, books, uniforms, and safe transportation.

The trust has also established a dedicated hostel for girls, ensuring they have a safe and supportive environment to pursue their studies. Counselling sessions, life skills workshops, and career guidance programmes help build the confidence these young women need to dream big.

"Educating a girl is educating an entire family," says Dr. P. Nagaraju. "When our girls go back to their villages as educated, empowered women, they become role models and change agents for the next generation."

Currently, over 200 girls are enrolled in the trust's programmes, with a retention rate of 95% — a remarkable achievement in a region where the average female dropout rate exceeds 30%.

A spotlight on the trust's dedicated programmes to increase female enrollment and retention in schools across Anantapur district.
